Student Teaching

Student Teaching is the culminating experience in an education student’s academic career. The student teaching experience consists of teaching a full day, every day for at least one academic quarter (11-16 weeks, depending on the program). A capstone (undergraduate students) or seminar (graduate students) course accompanies the student teaching experience and meets regularly throughout the quarter. Students are assigned a cooperating teacher (on-site at the placement school) and a university supervisor (DePaul faculty) who provide regular feedback and complete formative and summative assessments.

To be approved to student teach, a student must have a minimum of a cumulative GPA of 2.50 (undergraduate) or 3.00 (graduate). All coursework and field experience hours must be successfully completed, and content area tests must have been attempted by the stated deadline prior to the start of student teaching.
