The Illinois standards for educators and school support personnel define the core competencies, professional conduct, and culturally responsive practices expected of licensed teachers, school leaders, and other licensed school personnel across the state. These standards are required for licensure by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Key Frameworks and Standards
- Illinois Professional Educator Standards: Define foundational competencies in areas such as instructional planning, differentiated instruction, learning environments, and assessment.
- Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards: Require educators to develop self-awareness, address systems of oppression, view students as individuals and co-creators of knowledge, and develop inclusive curricula and learning environments.
- Endorsement-Area Standards: In addition to state standards, each licensure area has specific standards that address the content knowledge, skills, and practices required for that field or for serving particular student populations.
