A learning domain is any course that fulfills one of the liberal studies requirements. These domains include Art and Literature; Philosophical Inquiry; Religious Dimensions; Scientific Inquiry; Cultural and Behavioral Inquiry; Historical Inquiry; and Math and Computing. To search for courses to fulfill these domains, simply use the "additional ways to search link" in class search, and then select the learning domain category from the requirement destination drop-down box in class search, and then click on the search button to narrow your course options.

Students who transfer into DePaul with at least 30 credit hours are not required to complete LSP 112 (Focal Point) and LSP 110/111 (Explore or Discover). Instead, you are allowed to select electives that are coded as learning domain courses. (See “What is a learning domain” for help searching for these requirements)

​​​To update your academic plan, please log into Campus Connect and go to Advising>Progress and Graduation> Change College, Major, or Minor. Simply click on the arrow and follow the prompts to submit your changes. You will receive a confirmation email once you have processed the changes.​

Students can use this link to calculate their major GPA. Please enter the grade exactly as it appears on your transcript (A-/B+) as the + and – do factor into your GPA. After you enter the credit hours and grade, click on the compute button to view your GPA.​

Before completing a class at a community college, students must complete the Transfer Credit Approval Form, and submit it via email to CMNAdvising@depaul.edu. After you complete the course and have a grade posted to your transcript, students need to request the transcript be sent to our Admission Office at 1 E. Jackson Boulevard Chicago, IL 60604.​

​​​​The University Residency Requirement states that your last 60 credit hours must be completed at DePaul, therefore students are not allowed to transfer in courses from another university once they have earned 132 credit hours.​​ Please see the Undergraduate Handbook for complete details.

Only open elective courses can be taken as pass/fail. To choose a course as pass/fail, please complete the form and make sure to submit the form to your academic advisor by the deadline. The pass/fail deadline dates can be found on the Academic Calendar.​

​There are three ways to fulfill your junior year experiential learning requirement.

1. Students can obtain an internship and get it approved through DePaul for academic credit. Students must attend an internship workshop before earning credit, and be enrolled in an internship class while they are completing the internship in order to earn credit. DePaul does not award credit retroactively for internships.
2. Students have the opportunity to pursue a study abroad program.
3. Students can choose to enroll in a course that is coded as junior year experiential learning and requires community service. Students can search for these courses in Campus Connect by using the Liberal Studies Requirement Designation drop down box. You can also contact your academic advisor for a list of some possible options.

Due to the flexibility of the College of Communication curriculum, generally, our students can study abroad through any program. College of Communication Closed Course Policy

1. The student must first place himself or herself on the waitlist for the course and ensure that there are no registration holds that will prevent enrollment.
2. The instructor of the course must email CMNadvising@depaul.edu indicating that the student has permission to be added to the closed class. There must be no open sections of the course available, and students will only be added if they need that particular course in that particular quarter to graduate. Also included will be the five-digit course number of the course, the student’s ID number, and verification that the student has attended all class meetings.
3. If the course is waitlisted, the instructor must allow any students who are on the waitlist ahead of the student in question to also be added to the course.
4. The College of Communication Special Exceptions Committee will review the request and process the add if all the above conditions are met. The student will be notified via email. This exception can only be granted once in a student’s career.

Prerequisites are in place so that all students start a course with the same requisite knowledge. Prerequisites are in place for all students. Prerequisites are not waived, and prerequisite courses may not be taken concurrently with the course that requires the prerequisite.

College of Communication Late Add Policy

1. The student must first ensure that there are no registration holds that will prevent enrollment.
2. The instructor of the course must email CMNadvising@depaul.edu indicating that the student has permission to be added to the class after the deadline. There must be no open sections of the course available, and students will only be added if they need that particular course in that particular quarter to graduate. Also included will be the five-digit course number, the student’s ID number, and verification that the student has been attending all class meetings.
3. The student must also email CMNadvising@depaul.edu with a statement regarding why the course could not be added by the deadline.
4. The College of Communication Special Exceptions Committee will review the request and process the add if the above conditions are met. The student will be notified via email. This exception can only be granted once in a student’s career.

Waitlist Policy

Enrollment from a waitlist automatically occurs if enough students drop the course so that the waitlisted student can be added, or if the student is waitlisted for a communication course in their final quarter and has no other open course options to complete the requirement.

Students should not assume that placing themselves on waitlist is an indication that they will be enrolled in the course. Students should not attend a course for which they are waitlisted or email professors to be added to a waitlisted course.

If a student finds that a course that they need to graduate is waitlisted, they must first add themselves to the waitlist and then email their academic advisor and request addition to the waitlisted course before the deadline to add for that quarter. The advisor will verify that the course is required for graduation in that term and that there are no other sections of that course open. If those conditions are met, the student will be added to a section of the course within the deadline to add classes for the quarter.

Students must be sure to set up the waitlisted course as a SWAP if the waitlisted course is another section of a course they already have on their schedule, they will be over the 20 credit hour enrollment limit, or there is a time conflict with another course on their schedule. If any of these conditions exist and the course is not set up as a SWAP, the waitlist will bypass and move on to the next student on the waitlist.

Students can register for the December Session courses at the same time as Winter Quarter. Please visit your enrollment appointment in Campus Connect for your exact date and time.​

Summer registration is at the same time as spring registration (usually in early February). Please visit your enrollment appointment in Campus Connect for your exact date and time.​

To order an official transcript, log into Campus Connect and select Your Records > Request Official Transcript. Simply follow the prompts to request your DePaul transcript.

When students repeat a course, the original grade will always remain on the transcript. The new grade will replace the original grade in the GPA.​

To apply to graduate from DePaul and the College of Communication, log into Campus Connect and go to Advising > Progress and Graduation > Apply for Graduation and follow the prompts. Select the term you plan to complete your requirements and add a diploma address in the system for diploma delivery. Once you submit the form, you will receive an email confirmation that you have successfully applied to graduate. The email confirmation does not serve as confirmation that you have met all your requirements at DePaul, so we recommend if you have any questions about remaining requirements that you reach out to your academic advisor.

The deadlines to apply for graduation are as follows:

• Autumn Quarter: October 1
• Winter Quarter: January 15
• Spring Quarter: February 1
• Summer Sessions: July 15

To ensure you receive a diploma, students must apply to graduate in Campus Connect (see question above, "How do I apply for graduation?").

DePaul holds one commencement ceremony a year in mid-June. Students who are graduating in the current academic year (the academic years run autumn to summer) can walk in the June ceremony of their academic year. If you plan to attend the optional June commencement ceremony, you must order a cap and gown. Cap and gown information, as well other pertinent ceremony information can be found on the Commencement website​.

For graduation honors requirements, please visit the undergraduate student handbook. Please note that the College of Communication does not provide honor cords for the graduation ceremony.​

No, internships are not required to graduate. Internships are just one way to fulfill the junior year experiential learning requirement.​

To search and apply for other internships, students can use the DePaul Handshake website through the Career Center.​

Students must have an approved internship before being administratively added to CMN 394. Please contact Michael Elias if you have an internship offer.​​

No, internships are not required to graduate, although they are strongly encouraged. Internships are just one way to fulfill the junior year experiential learning requirement.​

If you do not have junior standing (at least 96 credits), you need to apply for credit through the University Internship Program. Go to the UIP website and scroll down to Steps for Enrollment for instructions on how to apply for internship credit through that program. If you are at least at junior standing and have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and want to apply for credit through the College of Communication’s internship program, please see our website for instructions.​

Students can visit the Career Center to set up an appointment with an advisor.​
